NEIGHBORHOOD
Walking through Milan's historic center is like leafing through the most precious pages of Italian history and modernity, fused together in a single, vast urban landscape. Imagine starting in Piazza del Duomo, the beating heart of the city: the Gothic cathedral, with its over 3,500 statues and the famous Madonnina, dominates the scene, inviting you to climb to the terraces for a breathtaking view of the urban maze that extends to the Alps and the skyscrapers of the new Milan. Next door, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, built in 1865, envelops you in mosaics, stained glass windows, and historic shops—a salon of elegance and glass-enclosed shopping.
Continuing, you emerge in Piazza della Scala, where the statue of Leonardo da Vinci stands in front of the famous theater: a perfect place to soak up culture and glamour. Behind it are Palazzo Marino, the seat of the Municipality, and the Museo del Novecento, along with the Palazzo Reale, custodians of modern art and the history of the Savoy family. Then comes the refined atmosphere of Brera, a hub of art with the famous Pinacoteca, a treasure trove of Italian masterpieces from the Renaissance to the 19th century.
Not far away, the imposing Sforza Castle, a fortress built by Francesco Sforza in the 15th century, now houses museums and libraries and opens onto the vast Sempione Park, dominated by the elegant Arco della Pace. It's the ideal place for a stroll along tree-lined avenues and recreational spaces.
If you love exclusive shopping, the nearby Quadrilatero della Moda (Fashion Quadrilateral) between Via Montenapoleone, Manzoni, della Spiga, and Palestro immerses you in a world of haute couture and extraordinary urban architecture. Here, every shop window is a work of art and every building a boutique-place of elegance.
With its gaze fixed on its sacred roots, the Historic Center preserves small religious gems off the beaten path: the magnificent Church of San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore, known as Milan's Sistine Chapel, and the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie, home to Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper, a universal masterpiece.
Yet, the historic heart is more than just monuments and culture: there are surprising corners like Vicolo Santa Caterina and the Quadrilatero del Silenzio, or the Art Nouveau porticoes that connect stately buildings and internal courtyards, offering moments of peace and beauty.
From the central squares to the historic outskirts, the urban fabric shifts toward Porta Venezia, San Babila, and the Navigli: to the east, the lively nightlife, atmospheric cafes, and trendy boutiques; to the southwest, along the canals, characterful venues and vintage markets—like the one on the Naviglio Grande—create an authentic and informal experience.
The Historic Center, in its ancient district (Area C and the Cerchia dei Navigli), represents Milan in all its contrasts: sacred and profane, art and fashion, bourgeoisie and popular vibrancy. Every corner—from the Duomo to the pedestrian streets—tells a fragment of Milanese history and invites you to discover something new.
Suggested itinerary (all strictly on foot): Duomo - Galleria - Scala - Brera Art Gallery - Sforza Castle with park - Fashion District - hidden churches (San Maurizio, Santa Maria delle Grazie) - sunset on the Navigli.

GET AROUND
Via Borgonuovo 4 is located in the heart of Milan's historic center, just steps from Montenapoleone, in the immediate vicinity of the Duomo and the fashion district. Despite its central location, the area is exceptionally well served by public transportation: metro, tram, bus, suburban railway, and the M4 line, ensuring quick and versatile travel to all areas of the city, the main train stations, and the airports.
Subway
The most convenient stop is Montenapoleone (M3 line, yellow), just a 3-minute walk (about 200 meters) from Via Borgonuovo 4. From here, you can reach Duomo, Missori, Centrale, and Comasina on the M3 line;
With a change at Duomo, take the M1 line (red) to San Babila, Cairoli, and Conciliazione.
With a change at Missori, you can access the nearby suburban railway lines and the M4 line.
The M4 line passes near San Babila, easily accessible with a stop on the M3 line and a 5-minute walk, or with a short tram/bus ride. The M4 line connects San Cristoforo to Linate, passing through San Babila, Dateo, and Forlanini, and has become a fast east-west axis.
Thanks to this connection, you can reach Linate in about 12 minutes from San Cristoforo to Linate and access the M1 line (San Babila), Passante, and Ferrovie Stato (Italian Railways) hubs.
Bus and Trams
A few steps away on Via Borgonuovo and the surrounding area, you'll find numerous lines:
Tram lines 14 and 24: cross Corso Venezia, connecting with Cadorna, Duomo, Lambrate, etc.
Buses 43, 61, 81, 84, and 85: connect with Brera, Porta Venezia, Repubblica, Lambrate, and Città Studi.
These lines provide direct connections to strategic areas without having to constantly use the metro.
Main Train Stations
Milano Centrale: 3 stops on the M3 line (Montenapoleone - Duomo - Centrale), about 10–12 minutes. Alternatively, take the NM3 bus via Piazza Cavour in about 15 minutes.
Milan Cadorna: tram lines 14/24 direct (10–12 minutes) or the M3 line to Duomo and the M1 line to Cairoli, followed by a walk. You can also take the connecting train from the Missori stop.
Milan Porta Garibaldi: M3 line to Repubblica plus a connecting train, or the M3 line to Centrale plus a link train. About 15–20 minutes in total.
Passante ferrovia (railway line S1, S5, S6): The Milano Nord stop (Ferrovie Nord) can be reached by tram and bus, plus a short walk (Repubblica/Missori area). From the M4-Forlanini-Dateo interchange, you can take the S5 line.
Airports
Milan Linate Metro line M3 to Duomo, then change to line M1 to San Babila, line M4 Linate
Milan Malpensa
Line M3 to Duomo or line M1 or passante to Cadorna or Centrale and Malpensa Express (40–45 minutes)

In summary
Via Borgonuovo 4 enjoys a prime location: the M3 metro station is just 3 minutes away, trams and buses pass practically in front of the building, and the M4 is easily accessible via short interchanges.
