THE NEIGHBORHOOD
The Historic Center of Milan is the beating heart of the city, an urban fabric full of history, art and iconic architecture that intertwines with the modernity of the Lombard capital. Dominated by the imposing Duomo, a masterpiece of international Gothic, the center develops around Piazza del Duomo, the civic and religious hub, flanked by the majestic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a 19th-century salon of Milanese luxury. A few steps away stands the famous Teatro alla Scala, one of the world's temples of opera, overlooking Piazza della Scala, with the statue of Leonardo da Vinci in the center. Here is also located Palazzo Marino, the seat of the Municipality.

Also nearby, Palazzo Reale and the Museo del Novecento offer high-profile exhibitions and collections. Continuing north you come across Brera, a refined and cultural neighborhood, custodian of the famous Pinacoteca di Brera, a treasure chest of Italian masterpieces from the Middle Ages to Romanticism. From here you can easily reach the Castello Sforzesco, a Renaissance fortress that houses civic museums and opens onto the lush greenery of Parco Sempione, with the elegant Arco della Pace in the background.

To the east, along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, there are boutiques, historic churches such as San Carlo al Corso and the lively Piazza San Babila, gateway to the Quadrilatero della Moda, where streets such as Montenapoleone, Spiga and Sant’Andrea host the most prestigious international fashion houses. To the south, you reach the medieval Piazza dei Mercanti, the Carrobbio, and the early Christian basilicas: the Basilica di Sant’Ambrogio, among the oldest and most symbolic, and San Lorenzo Maggiore with the famous Roman columns in front.

Continuing, you come across the Navigli, a neighborhood full of atmosphere and tradition, where the ancient waterways are now animated by clubs, galleries, bookshops and markets. To the west is the Cordusio area, home to historic bank buildings, now at the center of a major urban redevelopment with new commercial and cultural venues.

The Historic Center, bordered by the ancient Cerchia dei Navigli, borders iconic neighborhoods: Brera and Parco Sempione to the north; Porta Venezia and San Babila to the east; Ticinese and Navigli to the south; Porta Garibaldi, Cordusio and Carrobbio to the west. Each of these contains art treasures and unique views: from Santa Maria delle Grazie with Leonardo's Last Supper to Rotonda della Besana, from the elegance of Via Manzoni to the liveliness of Corso Magenta.

The center of Milan is not just a collection of monuments, but a complex and layered urban experience, where every street tells centuries of history, every square hosts events, every view unites past and future. A mosaic of culture, spirituality, design, fashion and conviviality, to be experienced on foot, day and night.

MOVING IN THE AREA
